Abstract

The worldwide effort to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and constrain the depletion of fossil resources has hastened the adoption of renewable technologies in transport and energy sectors. The photovoltaic (PV) technology has experienced a steep cost reduction in the last decade, making it a potential solution for clean electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Solar irradiance variability, however, presents operational challenges. To combat this, the current work suggests a solar-powered EV charging station model enriched with Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithms to maximize energy harvesting. This paper deals with the simulation and performance evaluation of the suggested charging system using MATLAB/Simulink. The system is analyzed in variable irradiance and temperature conditions. Results indicate enhanced power delivery efficiency and battery performance. The application of MPPT facilitates stable energy conversion, reducing reliance on grid supply while encouraging sustainable use of energy.
