Mathematics is one of the most important foundations of Data Science and Machine Learning. Although modern data-driven systems depend heavily on computers, programming, and large datasets, their basic methods are built on mathematical concepts. Linear algebra helps represent and process data, calculus helps in optimization and model training, probability and statistics help deal with uncertainty and make predictions, and mathematical optimization helps machine learning algorithms find better solutions. Concepts such as vectors, matrices, functions, derivatives, probability distributions, correlation, regression, and statistical estimation are used in almost every stage of data analysis and machine learning. This paper explains the major applications of mathematics in Data Science and Machine Learning in a simple and systematic way. It also discusses how mathematical thinking supports data preprocessing, visualization, predictive modelling, classification, clustering, neural networks, and model evaluation. The paper argues that mathematics does not work separately from programming and technology; rather, it provides the theoretical structure through which computational methods become meaningful and reliable.
