Title of the Special Issue: Big Data and Society
Call for Papers
According to Stolterman and Fors (2004, p. 689), society is currently experiencing a genuine digital transformation, encompassing "a set of technological, cultural, organizational, social, creative, and managerial changes associated with digital technology applications in all aspects of human society." McDonald and Rowsell-Jones (2012) asserted that "digital transformation goes beyond the simple adoption of new technologies, enabling, on one side, the provision of services, goods, and experiences, and on the other side, the discovery, processing, and accessibility of large quantities of content, creating pervasive new connections between people, places, and things."
This special issue aims to explore the potential of Big Data in various areas of social sciences, including education, sociology, and psychology. The rapid pace of technological and scientific advancements has facilitated the accumulation of massive data, the social analysis of which can significantly enhance the quality of human life. The analysis of extensive information provides an opportunity for responsible, respectful, and operational decision-making.
We envision this special issue to serve as a foundational piece in the scientific literature addressing Big Data in social sciences. We eagerly seek submissions from diverse social disciplines, utilizing studies, research, and reviews to elucidate the potential enhancements offered by Big Data. We encourage contributions that comprehensively explore both the positive and critical aspects of Big Data, fostering a nuanced analysis of its evolving role in the years to come.
Furthermore, we welcome submissions that illuminate the analytical connections and the learning and development potential inherent in Big Data, specifically in the context of implementing improvements in education, social work, and other services of general societal interest.
We extend an invitation to scholars to actively participate in this discourse by submitting research papers or comprehensive reviews spanning various domains within the social sciences. Selected manuscripts for this special edition will undergo a rigorous peer-review process, ensuring the swift and widespread dissemination of research findings, developments, and applications of Big Data across diverse areas and contexts of scientific and professional advancement.
